Reflection On The Book “The Hunger Games”

The Hunger Games is a book about a similar society to our own. The rich are in control of everything while the poor suffer. The rich enjoy watching the teens in a deathmatch. The story revolves around Katniss, a district twelve resident who is willing to participate in “the Games” to protect her younger sibling. Peeta’s story is also followed. He is the boy-tribute for District Twelve. Katniss can shoot a bow very well, giving her a competitive edge in “the Games”. Katniss has to “hunt” the rich kids down in the very first game. She wins by using berries. She also rescues Peeta. The author introduces an entirely new way of playing the games. Instead of teens, it’s now adults. Katniss discovers how to make and maintain alliances with others. Katniss becomes a member of the rebel alliance. This is a group that aims to change how society works. She joins this alliance to try and change the world.

Katniss has a strong character in The Hunger Games. She will give her all to protect what she stands for. Katniss embodies the traits of a noble and true person. She reminds of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Katniss doesn’t think it is fair that people are put in classes and then have their decisions taken for them. Katniss, who is poor and from district 12, volunteers to be a tribute at the games in order to protect her younger sister. Katniss is forced to weigh her feelings of love and survival in this story. Katniss is someone I admire because she isn’t afraid to speak up when something feels wrong. She will give her life to save people she does not even know. She’s a good archer so she can excel at games. She is very intelligent, which also gives her the upper hand. Katniss has a dynamic personality. She started out not understanding how badly things needed to be changed. She joins the rebellion alliance and knows what she stands up for. Breanna Holbert is the person I would compare Katniss’s character to in modern society. Breanna is the National FFA’s president. She faces many obstacles. Being a black female in a working class society makes people look down on her. She will not let the wealthy society dictate her life and make all of her decisions.

Peeta, a character from The Hunger Games is also a male protagonist. He is the district twelve tribute. Katniss Mellark and Peeta Mellark had only met once before they were selected. At age 11, Peeta burnt bread for Katniss to eat. Peeta is in love with Katniss. Peeta was almost killed for Katniss. Peeta told Katniss to leave a fight she was having. She did so and found him a few days later, almost dead. Peeta decides to join Katniss because they can have two winners if both are from the district. The rules changed, and only one winner was allowed. Peeta says that Katniss should kill him to go home and be with her family. Katniss says they should eat Nightlockberries to kill themselves. After they stop, the winner is announced. Peeta will die for Katniss. He loves Katniss but knows she is playing him. Peeta is someone I admire for his sacrifice. He reminds me a soldier who gives up their happiness and peace to save his/her country. He sacrificed Katniss’s pesce when he beat her to prevent her from starving to death.

“When I was a child, the things that I would say about District 12, the people in the distant city of Capitol who rule our nation, Panem, terrified my mother. I realized that this was only going to cause us more problems. I had to learn to hide my feelings and my face into an indifferent mask.

This quote will help you understand Katniss. It started when she said things about their society’s problems without realizing what was being said. But she comes to realize the injustices in the society as the story goes on.

This book is something I personally recommend to everyone. This book teaches how to gain skills while taking charge. The American people need to learn how to do it because they want to change the society in a way that is unhealthy and unproductive. We have the chance to make a difference. Katniss did not let anyone stop her from changing things.
